i reached the airport at around 5 plus. im heading for HONGKONG!!
my SQ meal. choice of carrot cake vs vegetarian egg dish...
can't believe SQ's onflight meals have got to this standard. really not nice...
and to make things worse.. my onflight entertainment is spoilt...
even the one next to my seat is spoilt.
luckily i was seated near a group of golfers. they were a pretty big group of close to elderly men and they entertained themselves by playing the shi san zhi (13 cards) which i happened to be playing quite a bit on my iphone lately. it was interesting looking at them play and arrange the cards. chatted a bit with them.
the man seated beside me was initially losing.. at the last round, i said to him " good luck " and apparently he won big that round! he won enough to cover back his losses and still win. his friends joked and said im his lucky star! haha
as we got off the plane and i switched on my phone, received a text from Luis to ask if im on a flight too.. turns out he is on the same flight as me!
from the airport, i took the bus A21 and headed to my hotel. After i got off the bus, it took me awhile to figure my way out to get to my hotel. i think i walked along the same street 3 times and it was a stretch of jewellery shop which the shop keepers saw me walking up and down with my luggage bag. how embarassing!
but eventually, i found it!
wendy chose the hotel to help me save money coz im paying for the lodging (long story... this was supposed to be a work trip).. she showed me the website:
www.sunhotel.hk
and i thought it looks fine. location seems damn convenient as well - Which is true. its right next to Langham Place.
but i didnt exactly expect the place to be right on top of a nightclub! haha
checked into the room...
its super small. only can open up one suitcase. its quite dusty as well with very thin pillows. but its got its plus points. its got free wifi, computer also available, damn convenient location (near langham place and near ladies street) and free flow drinks (will show the picture on tml's entry). Overall, its stayable and not very expensive.
after checking in, i walked over to yau ma tei area to look for my favourite curry fish balls and porridge!
tong tat hk cafe...
sincerely feel they have the best curry fish balls i've tried in hongkong be it in terms of taste or texture!
and of course, my absolute favourite porridge!!
pig liver and fish belly porridge!
Damn good! super big pieces of pig liver done just right! fresh pieces of fish belly making the porridge tasting really good!
i also headed over to Cityview Hotel, the one that i usually stay when i go hongkong because its not very expensive and very importantly, the porridge stall is right below! hehe..
http://www.thecityview.com.hk
i tried to ask for availability and pricing. WTH. they wanted to charge me $400 per night! cant afford it at all :( got to guai guai stay at sun hotel.
after that, i headed over to Central to do my hair. hair stylist Eric is not around. the dye specialist Raymond was there so i got him to dye to a really light colour for me.
the night before, i was browsing through my old albums and i seriously miss my va va vroom hair. the one that eric did for me for the first time.
after doing up my hair at 6 plus, i took the train back and arranged to meet wendy and her friends at Langham Place's H&M.
I was slightly early and shopped around H&M. i shopped with fear. haha.. because given past experience, when i get into H&M, i will shop like CRAZY! and i will end up with loads of clothes. I shudder at the thought of my heavy luggage bag AND my credit card bill.
Thank god i practiced extreme self control.. i refrained from even trying the clothes.. i stopped myself from even touching the racks to view the clothes closely.. i merely browsed.. and i browsed quickly.. even when i saw things i was interested in, i made a mental note to myself - Do i need it? den i will walk on!
that worked coz i bought nothing! hahahhaa
Met up with Wendy's friends Oka & Eva who brought us over to Sheng Ba - Morihachi Yakiniku. Turns out this branch is just right opposite my hotel (Sun Hotel). Less than 2 mins walk away!
3/F, 38 Plaza, 38 Shan Tung Street, Mong Kok
the BBQ, was fabulous! Seriously, its damn good! Oka did the ordering and it was just rounds and rounds of fabulous food.
Wendy loves ox tongue so Oka ordered the thick and thinner sliced ones...
these are some of the meat...
the pork collar is incredible. its sooooo tender yet you can still taste.. the texture of the pork. the ox tongue is also amazing. the chicken is also damn good!! much better than the yakiniku we have in singapore!
some of the precooked stuff.
chilled tofu, beef tail rice, salad, korean pancakes..
the chilled tofu is soooo good. many people like chilled tofu, i typically find it ok. but this one they have is darn good coz its got a very nice sauce (and im not usually a very saucey person.. if u know what i mean)
the salad is also damn good! the sauce is sesame sauce... really good!!
and more meat!
they are just damn good!
and the whole meal came up to about HKD$1200. Which is around SGD$200. I believe a meal like this in singapore would reach around SGD$300 - $400!!
after dinner, Oka and Eva brought us to show us where the Tim Hou Wan dim sum place is and along the way, she recommend this Fei Jie snack house.....
Shop 4A, 55, Dundas Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
apparently they said its very famous. it went on tv and many celebrities actually would drive pass just to buy this!
we shared a stick of octopus, pig liver and kidney. its rather good. esp since its chilled (something different) and they add sweet sauce with mustard.
enjoying the street food!
after showing us where tim hou wan is, we went for desserts at Tang Yuen...
Shop 1, G/F, Paradise Square, 3 Kwong Wa Street, Mong Kok
there was a short queue outside but we managed to get seats pretty fast, maybe coz it was already quite late. one thing i noticed about hong kong vs singapore is that many of their food places open till late unlike here in singapore. and i mean their YUMMY food places opens till late!
we shared a cookies and cream looking thingy...
it was not bad. pretty smooth cream like thingy.
the mango dessert....
which i didnt try coz i dont eat mango.
had a baileys with milk custard and pulau hitam dessert...
this is really good! given that im someone who likes panna cotta, the milk custard is like panna cotta. and i love the texture of pulau hitam to begin with... and with a tinge of baileys, its great!
Eva trying to use her ring to complement the dessert!
and in case anyone is interested, she designed the ring herself!
we made plans to meet up next day for Tim Hou Wan. That is top of my list.
as we walked back to the hotel, Wendy and i did a bit of hotel shopping. We went to check out 2 hotels that we passed by that is along the same street as our Sun Hotel because Sun Hotel really feels damn small.
we first checked out MK Hotel..
http://www.hotelmk.com.hk
which seemed fine but more expensive.
we also checked out victoria hotel.. we managed to get a lady to show us the room. it was damn nice!! as soon as we entered, we both just wanted to jump onto the bed and tell the lady we'll take it!!
its only HKD $370!
but later as we enquired further, HKD$370 is only if u check in at 12 midnight.. and if u check in during the day etc is HK$1500. SIAN JIT PUA. we LL walk back to our hotel.
the pillows are so thin.. we asked for more pillows but they ran out so we got blankets instead. their towels are really loads of flyaway threads .... so if u decided to come to sunhotel, try to bring ur own towels.
