Happy birthday to me 2012!

my birthdays for the past years have been reasonably spectacular with glitches here and there. Yet overall it seems like a blast. everyone also seems to be expecting a blast for me this year but no such thing.

reflecting on my birthdays for the past 4 years, i really need to thank crabby for 2 years of awesome surprises. much unexpected. no one has been so sweet enough to take up such organising work for me. you have made those two birthdays very special for me which i think i will thank you for even for 10 years to come.

my birthday this year is one without much anticipation. i didnt want to make the effort to make special plans for myself coz i guess if im special enough, the special plans will come. and if they dont, im 31 anyways.

i teared myself to sleep the night before thinking about certain people and certain past .. people who were once important, people whom i've written off. its never easy to write off someone who's once important. memories dont fade off as much as you'd think they do. not even for someone like me who seems to be suffering from dementia.

but usually, its all well after a night's sleep. i guess its the darkness of the night that creeps in to capture one's emotions and magnify it out of proportion.

special thanks to those who deliberately stayed up the night to make sure they wish me at midnight (meina, aloy, mel mel).. even to those who fell asleep while waiting to call and wish me (jiahao and JJ) and to the one who waited at my void deck.

i woke up with a lot of well wishes on fb and on watsapp making me feel much loved.

arranged to meet up with dar dar at raffles city for lunch. she suggested checking out Royal China coz she said she heard their dim sum is good....

they have a really lovely decor in tiffany colours, china style...

waiting for our seats...

and just as we were pretty full and all, the server arrived behind us to inform us he will start cooking our beef for us now. we had completely forgotten that we ordered this...

but it was so damn good!

the beef was incredibly tender. i like it!

dar dar likes the decor of the lift so we took the lift up and down and up and down...

dar dar accompanied me for awhile more after lunch den i headed to window shop around before heading to meet izzy for dinner.

izzy was also nice to arrange to bring me to an italian restaurant. he said his friends recommended this place along portsdown road....

nice rustic feel kinda place..

and he got me a small bouquet of white roses!

complimentary bread...

beef broth soup...

its got ravioli with braised beef inside. overall it was decent but i really miss the beef broth from austria. those with the semolina was incredibly good.

the parma ham was a little too salty after the pan fry.

for mains, we had a spinach ravioli...

which is pretty good. the sauce was pretty buttery...

and a squid ink with crab meat sauce...

this is the will nt stain teeth kind of squid ink. the tomato sauce is the kind that as you eat, u'd want more kind.

we also shared a rockets and parma ham pizza...

so yeah, we were incredibly full and couldnt really finish it. but the pizza was nice. thin pizza.

for desserts, we shared a cream brulee and a panna cotta...
