Joanne's Birthday Celebration 2014 @ Dancing Crab

Today i meet up with Joanne to celebrate her birthday and we checked out the current ever popular Louisiana style of seafood.

You most probably would have heard or tried a couple of the popular names like Cajun King, Full of Crab, Crab in a Bag etc.

Today we headed down to Dancing Crab which was under Tung Lok. I must say, with the Tung Lok's endorsement, it sips in an element of trust.

and being a birthday celebration, i bought a balloon and got the server to pass it to Joanne right when she arrives...

and its star shaped because just yesterday over our conversation, she was just telling me she likes star shapes over a chanel ring. The friendship with Joanne is nice and sweet. It can be totally random and over watsapp but we keep in touch. Over very random stuff. And i like that.

Happy Birthday Joanne!

and her present was a Fushia Pink VS passport holder. Something that i think is very her!

Food!

We ordered Crab Cakes to share...

Joanne felt the crab cakes were good. i found it ok, i didn't think it was superb, maybe i prefer a more crab-ish taste or chunkier meat. But i spoke to Bernard about it at a later point, he thought it was good too. I liked the sauce though.

we also ordered a lobster in their crab sauce....

That was superb! The size was just right, the sauce was yummy and the meat was succulent. Thumbs up! and btw, Lobster is IN. haha

we actually also went for one of their Combo (S$80) which comes with a Sri Lankan Crab, 300g prawns, 250g mussels, potatoes, corn and sausages....

And as you already know, its served in a big plastic bag and you are expected to use your hands and dig in.

I liked the idea it was Sri Lankan crab. I guess my previous experience at Cajun King on the dungeon crabs left a bad impression so i wasnt that adventurous in terms of the choice of crab. The dungeon crab we had previously at Cajun King was skinny and hairy, not much meat yet very expensive. So if you ask me, im happy that they have Sri Lankan crab cooked in the louisana style of sauce.

The crabs included in the bag were really big and succulent as well.

We chose the mild spicy Dancing Crab Signature sauce. I pretty liked it. It was not too spicy and had some tomato taste. I think its pretty good!

we also ordered some Oysters to share...

THE OYSTERS ARE CRAZY AWESOME! They are BIG AND FRESH! crazy good! Makes you want to go for seconds! and it appears it's not just me, had conversations with my cousin Wendy and my Bernard subsequently on different occassions about Dancing Crab and they both agreed the Oysters created an impression. It will make you want to go back for more!

and because we didnt have any carb, we ordered a Cod fish and chips as well. It was really yummy too and i loved their sauce.

And after conversing with the server, we decided to give his recommendations a try, to try this stone crab that he assured me it's defnitely sweeter and more meaty than the dungeon crabs i tried previously at Cajun King...

I must say the stone crab was indeed pretty good. The meat was tough and went well with the sauce!

By the way, ought to have a disclaimer that its not that Cajun King was not nice. I totally loved their calamari but maybe i didnt order the right kind of crab, i didn't enjoy the seafood bits as much.

Overall i must say it was a good meal! And i probably forgot to take pictures of our drinks but they have a lavendar lemonade drink that was really good. Its very fresh and appetising with that tinge of lavendar that didn't make it taste like aroma therapy. It was really good. I will order that again if i head back.

The staffs were also nice to serve the cake that i had previously arranged for Joanne to be served in a rather special way. They had it served on a plate with dry ice below so there was smoke and all....

The cake is a pomegranate cake in a lovely heart shape that i bought from Laman Delight's. I don't know if they are the only Russian Cake shop in Singapore but their cakes are crazy good. Always moist and yummy! Its not cheap but its just so good!

and i believe its age, haha after dinner we were both just exhausted and so there wasnt part 2. Although, a impromptu jio-ing by Quek and Doe resulted in 2 quick rounds of mj and mj typically supercedes fatigue (well, mostly). It was a nice catch up with the girls and with mj. haha

Mala Hot Pot with Fishy!

We were around the area and Fishy has been pretty hooked onto ma la xiang guo recently. So we decided to share share and try one of the most popular ma la xiang guo around...

So apparently you choose the ingredients you want - the rathe typical steamboat kind of items like vegetables, meat, etc. The person then stir fry it in some ma la sauce for you.

My initial impression was i thought it would be like steamboat. turns out it is dry with some sauce below. Pretty good. We asked for xiao la (a little spicy). But quite expensive. Ours cost us around $15! But good for sharing!

The happy fishy...

Birthday Celebration of the Lions Boss 2014

Gyoza ya is fast becoming one of my favourite joints. To begin with, friends who know me well enough will know that im not much of a gyoza person but their gyoza is actually quite good. But actually what i like about the place is not so much of the gyoza but the fried chicken soft bones and their chicken karage. To top it off, their pricing is very reasonable!

I have been raving about the place to a few of my colleagues so when the occassion arise for a reward lunch, it was the obvious choice.

Gyoza wise, they have the variety of pork, prawn and vegetable fillings in either boiled or pan fried style.

Today we ordered the prawn and pork fillings in both boiled and pan fried style.

But since the exteriors looked the same, i didnt take multiple pics or pics of the fillings coz we were too hungry! haha

The gyozas cost around $4.80 to $5.80 if i recall correctly.

The tonkatsu noodles....

This is probably one of their specials. The soup was pretty good and the noodles were really soft. The pork belly as well was pretty good. The noodle cost around $6.50.

I tried the garlic fried rice the last time i was here with my cousin and it was awesome. So this time round since we had more people, decided to also try the seafood fried rice.

the seafood fried rice was good but not as awesome as the garlic fried rice. The garlic fried rice was really fragrant and tasty!

the chicken karage is also really tender (definitely not breast meat) and tasty...

with the ladies...

and the last dish... chicken soft bones...

the chicken soft bones are really good! The texture is just interesting! very good to chew!

we polished everything off!

Work has been overwhelming lately - for a good cause. Had to try hard to leave on the dot today because am meeting the Lions babes to celebrate the birthday of the boss!

We went to Riverview Hotel upon the recommendation of our birthday boy. It has a pretty nice view overseeing the bridge...

as it was an exhausting day, i didn't take much pictures of the food. But the oysters pretty much got me! It was so fresh and so big!

i think i had about 6 to 7 of them. Sooooo yummy!

and they had the usual selection of sashimi...

the other items they had were mainly local delights... things like rojak, bak kut teh, cuttefish with eng cai (i like!) and laksa with slipper lobster...

desserts included chendol, bobo chacha and durian pengat. I didnt try the durian pengat but those who did said it was pretty good!

and since it was a birthday celebration of a man who has everything, we got him small little sweet gifts....

the funniest has got to be the little pony from Lucy. She wanted to get him a Lion soft toy but she couldnt find the lion so she watsapp us the pic of the pony and said.. " i got him this instead coz lion is so passe " hahahha
mandatory group picture!

boss with his sweet treats...

it was also peishan's birthday!

nice night of catch up.

as for why im blogging (with pics and all) after so long coz im trying the pics upload function on blogger itself. used to use photobucket but that is kind of lay chey. Lionel introduced me this function some time ago but never had time to explore it.
